About TopWapi
TopWapi is a toplist, traffic swap and promotional platform for independent websites. We built it because the honest version of this category did not exist.
The idea is simple and has been badly executed for twenty years. A toplist should be a genuine discovery surface — somewhere a reader goes to find good websites — and a promotional tool should pay members for delivering real people, not page loads. Put both in one platform and you get something neither can be alone: a leaderboard worth browsing, funded by the traffic its members already have.
What we are not
We are not an ad network. We do not sell placement, we do not run third-party advertising trackers, and we do not sell the data of anyone who uses this site. There is no paid position on the leaderboard and there never will be — the moment a rank can be bought, the rank stops meaning anything, and the whole thing collapses into a directory nobody reads.
What we are
We are a small editorial and engineering team that has run content sites and knows exactly how frustrating the first thousand visitors are. Everything on this platform is aimed at that problem: getting a specific, honest, well-made website in front of readers who are already looking for it.
How we count
This is the part we care most about, because it is the part every competitor is vague about.
- Every click is deduplicated to one human per destination per day.
- Uniqueness is enforced by a database constraint, not by application logic that can be raced.
- The visitor fingerprint is a hash of network and client signals with a salt that rotates daily, so identifiers are ephemeral.
- Raw IP addresses are never stored.
- Members see raw views and unique visitors side by side, so the gap between them is visible rather than hidden.
Where our approach has limits, we say so. A shared corporate network undercounts. A distributed botnet with residential exit nodes cannot be defeated by counting at all — it has to be made uneconomic, which is why the value of a credit is deliberately modest.
How we rank
Position blends recent clicks, monthly volume, lifetime clicks, promotional impressions and trust signals, with recent activity weighted most heavily. There is no tenure bonus, no size bonus and no payment. The methodology page sets out the full formula.
What we run on
TopWapi is a server-rendered application running on Cloudflare's global network with a D1 database at the edge. Pages are complete HTML before JavaScript executes, shared cache entries are reused across visitors, and there is no build step in the critical path. That is why a leaderboard page loads in milliseconds on a mid-range phone in Jakarta — and it is the same reason the site is easy for search engines to index.
Editorial standards
Our blog publishes the same material we use to run this platform. We cite the numbers, name the techniques that stopped working, and state where our own approach has limits. We do not accept sponsored posts, and we do not link to a product because somebody paid for it.
Timeline
| When | What happened |
|---|---|
| 2019 | The first version ran as a curated list of engineering blogs, hand-edited weekly. |
| 2021 | Promotional links and the credit economy replaced manual curation. Members began ranking themselves. |
| 2023 | The visitor fingerprint moved from a persistent identifier to a daily-rotating salt, and raw IP storage was removed entirely. |
| 2025 | Rebuilt as a server-rendered application on Cloudflare with a shared edge cache and D1 at the edge. |
| 2026 | 25 websites listed, 2.2M unique clicks delivered, 26 members. |
